As part of the NJ State Rabies Control Program, the State requires that all dogs aged 6 months and older must be licensed annually. In Washington Township, the license expires January 31 of each year. Fees are:
- Regular dog license--------- $13.20
- Neutered/spayed dog--------- $8.20
Beginning on April 1st of each year, there is a $6.00 late fee.
To obtain a license for a new dog or as a new resident, the owner must provide a certificate of rabies vaccination showing the expiration date, and proof of spay/neuter.Each time the dog receives a new rabies vaccination, the new certificate must be presented in order to renew the license.The rabies expiration will be printed on the new license, which should be safely stored by the owner for future reference.
Licenses may be obtained at the Municipal Building, 523 Egg Harbor Rd. Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed Fridays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Mail in requests are encouraged.All verification for shots and spay/neuter will be returned with the license and tag.When writing, please indicate if the license is a renewal or for a new dog. Mail requests to:

Please note:Per State law, in order for a license to be issued, the owner of the dog must show proof that the duration of immunity of the rabies vaccination extends through at least 10 months of the 12 month licensing period.An exemption can be granted if a licensed veterinarian certifies in writing that a rabies inoculation would be detrimental to a sick animal or one under special regimen of treatment.Per the State, boostering an animal with rabies vaccine prior to expiration of the duration of immunity will not harm the pet.Please follow the advice of your vet.
